A 3-year researcher position is available at the Department of Immunology, Oslo University Hospital. The position will be located in the lab of Prof. Søren Pischke and Prof. Tom Eirik Mollnes and will be available from February 2026.
The Norwegian Complement Research Group focuses on innate immunity with a special interest in the complement system. The innate immune system plays a pivotal role in sterile inflammation, particularly ischemia/reperfusion injury. However, we do not fully understand the key mechanisms exerting this inflammatory response and we need to develop strategies to modulate it in vitro, in animal models and in humans through clinical trials. We work in a truly translational setup and look for a basic scientist who is eager to engage in the whole perspective from bench to bedside in a group of researchers and clinicians at Oslo University Hospital.
Job description
The successful candidate will work on projects that aim to describe mechanisms and to attenuate innate immune derived inflammation in ischemia/reperfusion injury. The projects consist of in vitro laboratory work deciphering how misfolded proteins activate the innate immune system, a cardiac arrest study in big animals and organ preservation and transplantation, specifically liver and kidney, in an ex situ machine perfusion setup prior to transplantation. The candidate will work in a motivated, including and lively research group consisting in addition to the two PIs of a lab manager, one researcher, three PhD students and the aim to expand the group.

- Lead of kidney machine perfusion in a pre-clinical setup.
- Guidance and supervision of PhD students.
- Writing of scientific papers and presentation of results at international conferences.
- Writing of scientific grant applications with benefit for the whole group.
Qualifications
- PhD in immunology, pharmacy, molecular biology, or a related area.
- Prior experience with techniques such as cell culture, protein purification, ELISA, qPCR, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence microscopy.
- Experience with ex situ machine perfusion models is beneficial.
- Experience in translational research, i.e. understanding of clinical studies needs and regulations.
- Experience with grant application writing and documentation of success.
- Fluent in spoken and written English.
Personal skills
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with an outstanding potential and a strong background within a relevant research area. The candidate should be able to work independently as well as in a team and should actively contribute to both the design and conduction of research experiments.
The application must include
- Application letter, including research interests and motivation for applying for this position.
- CV summarizing education, positions held, details of academic work and other qualifying activities.
