About the Job
We have a 2-year vacancy for a researcher at the research group Water and wastewater systems engineering (https://www.ntnu.edu/ibm/water-and-wastewater-engineering)
This position is connected to the Horizon Europe project PIPEON (https://pipeon.eu/) - Robotics and AI for Sewer Inspection and Maintenance. The main work will be research on hydrodynamic modelling and flow monitor placement under the new information paradigm of autonomous robots. Autonomous robots in sewer systems will enable more freedom with regards to measure hydraulic parameters, either by using sensor data from the robots, or using the robots to install flow monitors at significantly lower costs. This increased flexibility will impact our understanding of how the sewer system hydraulics works, how to calibrate hydrodynamic models, and provide opportunities for interactions between the physical system and its digital twin.

Required selection criteria
You must have the following qualifications required for the position of Researcher 1109:
- You must have completed a doctoral degree in urban drainage modelling with a focus on computational methods
- Good oral and written presentation skills in English
- A strong publication track record with publications in relevant research areas in credible journals and conferences
- Knowledge and relevant project experience with modelling and monitoring of urban drainage systems
- Experience with Python for advanced programming, both design and planning, as well as programming. Additional programming language (e.g. C++, VB) is a plus
- Experience in working on research projects on a national and European level
Preferred selection criteria
- Motivation and willingness for interdisciplinary research
- Experience with data management including computational techniques for data quality control, data imputation, data models, data sharing and metadata
- Knowledge and understanding of how to plan and carry out measurement campaigns for data collection, from method/device/placement selection to maintenance and finally data utilization
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Good oral and written presentation skills in Norwegian/Scandinavian

Salary and conditions
The gross salary for the position of Researcher (code 1109) is normally remunerated at gross from NOK 620 000 –750 000 before tax per year, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU.
The engagement is for 2 years.
It is a prerequisite that you can be present at and accessible to the institution daily.
