At the very edge of Isfjorden, 100 km from civilization in Longyearbyen, you will find Isfjord Radio, our extraordinary outpost. During winter and spring, the Arctic outpost offers a unique contrast: spectacular northern lights early in the season and the midnight sun towards the end. Guests arrive by snowmobile or dog sled across the frozen tundra, and their reward is warm hospitality, comfort, and unforgettable experiences in one of the world’s most remote locations.
Together with the station manager, Front of House is responsible for ensuring smooth daily operations and seamless guest experiences. This role is all about creating an atmosphere of warmth and trust, where guests feel truly cared for in the midst of the Arctic wilderness.
At a remote winter outpost, flexibility is key. As Front of House, you will take part in a variety of tasks -- from welcoming guests arriving on snowmobiles, preparing rooms, supporting logistics, to assisting with everyday operations when needed. Meals are central to the Isfjord Radio experience. As Front of House, you should bring solid food and wine knowledge and contribute to presenting local produce sourced in traditional ways. Dining here is more than a meal; it is an essential part of the storytelling that connects nature, culture, and Arctic traditions.
We are looking for someone with strong service industry experience, preferably from hotels or restaurants. You should have excellent collaboration and organizational skills, and a natural ability to maximize guest experiences through professionalism, presence, and genuine hospitality.
The Svalbard winter is both spectacular and demanding. Weather changes quickly, often affecting planned activities, arrivals, and departures. It is therefore essential to be solution-oriented, adaptable, and clear in your communication with both guests and colleagues. An understanding of safe Arctic operations is also important.
Key requirements- Strong experience from the service industry (hotel or restaurant background preferred)
- Excellent teamwork, administrative, and communication skills
- Be comfortable about storytelling and presenting food/wine and the general history of Svalbard and the station
- A genuine passion for outdoor life and remote wilderness experiences is a clear advantage
- Willingness to take on a variety of tasks, even if it is outside your core job description
- Valid Class B driving license
- Ability and willingness to carry a firearm as part of safety duties; training and certification will be provided. Employment is subject to background checks and compliance with Norwegian firearms legislation and safety procedures.
The host role reports to the station manager.
We hope you are action-oriented, hardworking, and eager to embrace this unique opportunity. With Basecamp Explorer Spitsbergen, you will not only work in one of the Arctic’s most spectacular locations, but also contribute to shaping a world-class, sustainable, and adventurous travel concept.
Employment period: February to May 2026 (with possibilities for prolongation through the summer season).
