Product \& Field Engineer -- Next-Generation Fishing Technology

Help Shape the Future of Commercial Fishing

Scantrol Deep Vision is developing CamSounder, a new underwater camera and sonar system using AI and computer vision to give fishing vessels real-time information about what is entering the trawl, including species and size.

We are looking for a Product & Field Engineer to help us develop, test and bring this technology into commercial use.

About the role

You will work closely with our product development teams in Bergen and Girona, combining technical product work with regular field testing onboard fishing and research vessels.

What we learn at sea feeds directly into how CamSounder is improved and prepared for new fisheries and markets.

As Product & Field Engineer, you will play a key role in bringing CamSounder from development into commercial use.

Working closely with fishermen, researchers and our engineering teams, you will help shape the future of AI-based fisheries technology.

Most of your time will be spent with our team in Bergen, with regular fieldwork in Norway and internationally.

For the right candidate, other arrangements may also be considered.

This is a role for someone who wants to work hands-on with a new product where technical problem-solving and real-world experience have a direct impact on what we build.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and carry out CamSounder installations, trials and demonstrations onboard fishing and research vessels
• Prepare and coordinate field activities with customers, partners and our development teams
• Support customers during deployment, operation and testing
• Troubleshoot technical issues and coordinate solutions with the development team
• Work directly with skippers, vessel owners, researchers and industry partners
• Collect operational feedback and data for continued product development
• Train customers and crews in the use of CamSounder
• Participate in R&D projects across new species, fisheries and applications
• Help turn successful trials into robust commercial solutions

Who You Are

We are looking for someone who is practical, technically curious and comfortable moving between office-based product work and hands-on field operations.

You may have a background in:

• Fisheries or fishing operations
• Marine or ocean technology
• Electronics, instrumentation or automation
• Marine research
• Other relevant technical or operational roles

A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field is useful, but practical experience and strong technical understanding may be just as valuable.

You should:

• Enjoy working both as part of a technical team and onboard vessels
• Be comfortable with regular travel and occasional trips at short notice
• Be able to troubleshoot technical systems systematically
• Communicate well with vessel crews, customers, researchers and development teams
• Be self-driven, practical and comfortable taking responsibility
• Be interested in AI, computer vision and new technology for commercial fishing
• Be comfortable working with a product that is still evolving
