On behalf of our partner, we are looking for a Research Scientists - Experimental Research in Flow Systems and Process Engineering at SINTEF Industry, Tiller (Trondheim).
We are seeking two highly motivated, experimentally focused Research Scientists. In this role, you will contribute to a diverse range of R&D projects, working with advanced experimental facilities to support process technology development within multiphase flows, and the testing and validation of equipment and technologies essential for a low emission oil and gas industry, the process industry and the energy transition.
This position is ideal for someone passionate about hands-on experimental work, engineering, problem-solving, and contributing to applied industrial research with societal impact. This role also offers considerable freedom. You will have opportunities to shape research from the conceptual stage, engage in projects you are passionate about, and leverage both your own network and SINTEF's extensive contacts to advance your work.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the design, engineering, and execution of experimental campaigns, building and adapting rigs for research in flow systems and process engineering
- Contribute with system design based on thermodynamics, mass/energy balances, and flow modeling and process modelling.
- Analyze experimental data and support model validation and scale-up activities.
- Document work in technical reports, publications, and presentations to clients and partners.
- Share research outcomes through conferences, seminars, publications, and other platforms.
- Develop and seek funding for national and international projects.
- Management of R&D projects of varying size and complexity.
- MSc or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or related discipline, physics, mathematics, or chemistry.
- Experience with hands-on testing (experimental or field work).
- Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, fluid chemistry, and heat and mass transfer.
- Previous knowledge of multiphase flows, fluid and process chemistry, emulsions, hydrates, wax, or O&G production system is a strong advantage.
- Work experience or previous knowledge in flow assurance in emerging sectors such as CO2, NH3 and others is an advantage.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to apply engineering principles to practical applications, including familiarity with process equipment such as pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, sensors, piping systems, reactors, and separators.
- Knowledge of data analysis tools and programming (e.g programming skills: Matlab, C++ or Python).
- It is an advantage to have knowledge of and experience with flow assurance software (LedaFlow, OLGA, PipeSim, PVTSIM or Multiflash), process simulators (Hysys or K-Spice) and/or CAD tools (e.g., Inventor).
- Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Norwegian is an advantage.
For more information about the positions, please contact Rune Levang (+47 922 37 697) or Marte Derås (+47 932 38 345) at Keystones AS, or Research Director Andrea Shmueli Alvarado (+47 45 19 63 95) at SINTEF Industry. Please submit your CV via our link.
All inquiries will be treated confidentially if requested during the initial phase with the client. We look forward to hearing from you!
Workplace: SINTEF Industry, Tiller (Trondheim)
Application deadline: September 30.
The Department for Process Technology consists of 4 research groups in Trondheim, 2 in Oslo and 1 in Porsgrunn. The office location for these positions is at the SINTEF Multiphase Flow Laboratory at Tiller in Trondheim, so it is an advantage if you have a driver's licence and own transportation.
Om bedriften
The Multiphase Flow group at SINTEF Industry conducts research and development to create competitive and sustainable solutions in collaboration with our industrial partners to enable net-zero emissions. At the core of our strategy is the interplay between laboratory experiments and mathematical models in multiphase flow, with a particular focus on energy-efficient oil and gas production and CO? transport for carbon capture and storage. The group also develops innovative solutions and pilot-scale equipment for data collection, modelling, and testing in the process industry. The group is responsible for the national research infrastructure "The Multiphase Flow Laboratory" at Tiller and the development of the commercial multiphase flow simulator LedaFlow. The laboratory holds a leading position within the Low Emission Research Centre and both coordinates and participates in various EU-funded projects related to thermal energy storage, hydrogen transport, and electrochemical processes for the chemical industry.
