We are now looking for a Financial Controller to join our Financial Reporting team in Arendal. The Financial controller will be responsible for producing timely and accurate financial reports for the different legal entities and branches within the Gard group.
We are looking for a candidate with strong technical expertise, analytical skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting. You should have a proactive mindset and enjoy solving complex accounting and reporting challenges.
You will interact with colleagues across different functions and countries, external stakeholders and the external audit team.

The position is based at our head office in Arendal.
Key responsibilities:- Taking ownership of quarterly closings of the accounts for the legal entities and branches within the Gard group, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of all accounting records.
- Prepare statutory accounts including annual reports for the Norwegian companies. Support and assist with the preparation of the statutory accounts of Gard’s branch offices globally.
- Monitor Gard’s compliance with local and international tax, VAT, and other statutory reporting obligations. Prepare corporate tax returns for Gard’s Norwegian entities.
- Participate in assessing complex accounting matters by providing analysis, insight, and advice to senior management (IFRS and Norwegian GAAP).
- Handle various ad hoc queries on accounting, VAT and tax.
- Contribute to Gard’s work on sustainability reporting and the continued integration of ESG requirements into our financial reporting framework, including improvement of the sustainability reporting closing process and internal control over sustainability reporting.
- Support and assist with digitalization and standardization of financial processes.
- Collaborate with other teams within the Gard group such as actuarial, risk, and legal teams on cross-functional matters. Communicate and build relationships with external auditors and other relevant stakeholders.
- A Master’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration or equivalent.
- Minimum five years’ work experience as a Financial Controller, as an auditor or other relevant accounting work, preferably from an international company or auditing firm.
- Experience working in industries that are under the supervision of the Norwegian FSA (or equivalent), preferably the Insurance industry .
- Good command of various IT applications and an interest in efficient use of digital tools and development of processes.
- Experience with sustainability- or ESG reporting is an advantage.
- Strong interpersonal skills. You are collaborative, analytical and business-oriented.
- Good communication skills in written and spoken Norwegian and English.
