Fleet Safety TrainerTo support our vision to be Best on Water with cleaner energy, BW LPG is seeking a dedicated and experienced Mariner to join our team as a Fleet Safety Trainer.
This role is ideal for a candidate with sailing experience as a Master on gas carriers, preferably LPG vessels, who is passionate about safety, crew development, and continuous improvement.
The Fleet Safety Trainer will report to our Oslo office and sail onboard BW LPG vessels for single voyages to conduct training, promote company values, and strengthen our safety culture. Vessel visits may also include inspections, audits, and participation in incident investigations. As a Fleet Safety Trainer, you will participate in quality management and continuous improvement processes, ensuring alignment with BW’s safety and environmental standards, and act as an advisor and ambassador onboard for our procedures and way of working.
Key Responsibilities:- Sail onboard our fleet vessels for single voyages to promote the company’s key priorities: safety, compliance, and performance.
- Act as an ambassador for safety campaigns, reinforcing company safety initiatives and programs. Contribute to the development and, when needed, take the lead in implementing onboard training programs.
- Conduct training sessions and safety meetings with all crew members to share knowledge of procedures and company standards, discuss recent fleet incidents, and effectively communicate lessons learned.
- Assess the current safety culture onboard and address any identified areas for improvement.
- Observe and assess crew performance and provide comprehensive debriefs to the office as required.
- Conduct vessel inspections and carry out internal ISM, ISPS, MLC, cargo, mooring, and navigational audits, both in port, at anchorage, and while sailing.
- Provide support to vessels during external audits while onboard.
- Assist with incident investigations on BW vessels as assigned.
- Actively contribute to the development of the quality management system and participate in the continuous improvement of policies, processes, and procedures.
- Support the deck team with planning and overseeing deck maintenance activities while onboard.
- Act as project manager as assigned by Management.
- Sailing experience as Master on gas tankers (preferably LPG).
- Valid foreign-going Master’s Certificate of Competency.
- Technical skills related to gas carrier operations.
- Be familiar with applicable rules, regulations and industry requirements.
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills in English.
- Residency in Norway or the Schengen region is required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with cultural awareness.
- Hands-on, solution-oriented, and proactive approach.
- Strong communicator and effective liaison between fleet and office.
- Capable of performing well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
