About the job
The Adjunct Associate Professor (førsteamanuensis II) position has a full-time equivalence of 20% and has a fixed term of up to 4 years with the possibility of employment for further periods.
The Adjunct Associate Professor in computer architecture will be affiliated with the Department of Computer Science. The position is announced within the research area of the Computing unit.
From the perspective of this announcement, we define computer architecture as the process of creating the hardware structure of computer systems including microarchitecture, memory system, and interconnect design. The targeted computer systems cover the full range from general purpose computing to specialized acceleration. The Adjunct Associate Professor will be part of the Computing unit, which covers all main abstraction levels of computer systems and consists of experts in computer architecture, system software, parallel computing, algorithms, and visual computing.
Your immediate leader is the unit leader of the Computing unit at the Department of Computer Science.
Duties of the position
The Adjunct Associate Professor is expected to contribute to teaching in computer architecture related courses, such as TDT4260 — Computer Architecture, and perform research in computer architecture in cooperation with the existing staff. The Adjunct Associate Professor may also help with supervision of master and/or Ph.D. students.
Required selection criteria
The position of Adjunct Associate Professor within (subject area) requires that you meet the criteria in the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts section 1-4.
Knowledge of one or more of the following areas is required:
- System design
- Microarchitecture design
- Accelerator design
You must document relevant basic competence for teaching and supervision at university/higher education-level, as referenced in the NTNUs guidelines for academic positions. If this cannot be documented, you are required to complete an approved course in university teaching (1 module = 20 hours) within two years of commencement. NTNU offers qualifying courses.
Preferred selection criteria
Knowledge of one or more of the following areas is beneficial:
- Acceleration of machine learning / artificial intelligence
- Hardware-software co-design
- Industrial research experience in computer architecture or related fields
- Digital design

Salary and conditions
In a position as Førsteamanuensis (code 1011) you will normally be remunerated from gross NOK 690 000 – 870 000 per year, corresponding with a 20% position, depending on qualifications and seniority. If you are eligible for membership at the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

- Names and contact information for three relevant referees (name, relation to applicant, e-mail and telephone number).
- If you are currently not living within a commute distance of Trondheim, then you must provide an explanation to how you will be able to be physically present at the department approximately one day a week.

It is important that you both document and reflect on your competence. You are encouraged to use the NTNUs competence matrix as a guide for documentation of your competence.
Joint work will also be considered. If it is difficult to identify your specific input to a joint project, you must include evidence of your contributions.
In the evaluation of which candidate is best qualified, emphasis will be placed on education, experience and personal and interpersonal qualities. Motivation, ambitions, and potential will also count in the assessment of the candidates.
NTNU is obliged by the evaluation criteria for research quality in accordance with The San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment – DORA and The obligations in the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment ( CoARA) on responsible assessment of research and recognition of a wider range of academic contributions to science and society. This means that we will pay particular attention to the quality and academic range demonstrated by your scientific work to date. We will also pay attention to research leadership and participation in research projects. Your scientific work from the last five years will be given the most weight.
Your application will be considered by an expert committee. Candidates of interest will be invited to an interview, and to deliver a trial teaching session.
