Role summary:
Norlights International School is responsible for creating an effective learning environment where students can demonstrate thoughtful and ethical behaviour and ensure that the values and principles of the IB learner profile are at the heart of learning and relationships in and outside the school.
Teachers will support the personal and academic development of students in their advisory group and contribute to extra-curricular and community and service activities.
Subject teacher responsibilities
- Plan and teach lessons following the IB curricula that differentiate for individual student needs and support students
- Use a wide range of technologies and creative teaching styles.
- Regularly contribute to curriculum planning and development including interdisciplinary units of work and the development of transdisciplinary skills.
- Plan with colleagues to deliver effective team teaching when possible.
- Develop assessment tasks following IB guidelines and use a wide range of formative assessment tools.
- Designing effective assessment criteria and informing parents of outcomes of them
- Attend regular curriculum planning and student progress meetings.
- Keep parents informed about student progress and attending parent meetings.
- Prepare and organize projects for students to improve their Norwegian skills
- Diagnose students' level of language by applying standardized written ad oral examinations at the end of each term
- Support MYP-5 students for the Personal Project
Advisor responsibilities
- Foster good home-school relationships, with regular communications to parents.
- Deliver care, guidance and support to their advisory group and take responsibility for monitoring students' academic and personal development as they progress through the programme.
- Work with students to develop personalised learning goals and strategies for achieving these goals.
- Work with the IB Coordinators to ensure each student has opportunities to undertake meaningful service activities.
Whole school responsibilities
- Take an active part in the provision of extra-curricular activities.
- Take an active part in creating a distinctive ethos for the school and encouraging high standards of conduct according to the school behaviour policy.
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
- Collaborate professionally with colleagues on the growth and development of academic and social programmes at NLIS
- Engage professionally with new initiatives undertaken by the school.
Administrative responsibilities
- Keep up-to-date records of attendance, curriculum, assessment tasks and assessment data in Managebac.
- Prepare student reports and references, and other reports as required.
- Carry out supervision at break times (twice a week), lunch times and other times as required.
- Participate as required in the preparation for inspections, authorizations and accreditations.
Professional learning
Demonstrate a genuine, active interest in on-going personal professional development, including through participation in professional learning groups in the school.
Commit to deepening a professional approach to technology
Contribute to initiatives for innovation in the use of learning technologies.
Keep up-to-date with developments in the IB.
Teaching
1. Teaching Norwegian as follows
22 classroom hours teaching in the PYP & MYP section
2. Fulfil subject-specific requirements such as assessment, feedback to the students and
parents.
PS : 1 classroom hour is 45 minutes
