Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. OsloMet educates students and conducts research that contributes to the sustainability of the Norwegian welfare state and the metropolitan region.
Faculty of Social Sciences offers study programmes within archivistics, library and information science, journalism and media studies, social work, social policy and child welfare, public management and business.
The faculty has about 4200 students and nearly 280 members of staff.
Oslo Business School has approximately 1700 students and 70 employees and offers study programmes both at Bachelor and Master level, as well as a wide range of continuing and further education.
Oslo Business School is expanding and looking for a person holding a doctoral degree in finance. The position is in the Finance and Accounting group and the person appointed will contribute to Oslo Business School's research and teaching in the main areas of finance. The finance and accounting group is one of the school’s five sections and is a vibrant and diverse group consisting of researchers that regularly publish in recognized international journals.The position is open to all levels (assistant, associate or full professor), but formally recruited as an associate professor with tenure. Promotion to full professor will be possible for those qualified after being hired.
Tasks and responsibilities:
- teaching and supervision at the Bachelor, Master, and PhD level
- active contribution to the development of a high-quality education
- initiate and carry out high quality academic research
- contributing to the continued development of the research group in finance and the department’s study programmes
- academic-administrative tasks
- active contribution to the development of Oslo Business School, and OsloMet in general
- disseminating research results to the academic community and to the society in general
Qualification requirements:
The ranking of qualified applicants is based on scientific merits. Teaching experience, personal qualities and suitability for the position are also important factors. We only consider recent publications (last five years) and the potential for future publications in high-quality journals. The person we hire should fit the profile of our bachelor and master programs and must be able to contribute to the school’s long-term academic development. We encourage women to apply.
Applicants must:
- hold a PhD in finance (or be near completion)
- have published in recognized international journals and/or document the potential for high quality publications
- have excellent teaching skills
- document relevant educational theory and practice for higher education. The applicant must document relevant educational competence in accordance with OsloMet’s Guidelines for the assessment of educational competence at OsloMet.
- written and oral proficiency in English and Norwegian or another Scandinavian language.
Applicants who do not have adequate proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, will be offered Norwegian courses, and must acquire Norwegian skills corresponding to at least level B2 within three years of appointment.
Applicants in the last six months of their PhD can apply. Admission requires that the thesis has been approved and defended. Confirmation from supervisor or head of department must be attached to the application.
General criteria for appointments to academic positions are covered by the Regulations for appointment and promotion to academic posts.
Emphasis will be placed on
- academic research relevant to the position
- experience with research networks and externally funded projects
- teaching and supervision experience from different degree levels
- quantitative skills, related to empirical research or teaching
- proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language
- capability in communicating and cooperating with students and colleagues
- personal qualities that contribute positively to the working environment

The salary for the position is in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for state employees and OsloMets pay policy for Associate Professor in code 1011, corresponding to 615 700 – 745 000 NOK per year. The salary depends on the qualifications of the applicant. From the salary, 2% will be deducted in pension contributions for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK). A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
