Jotun is a global and innovative paint company with ambitions for further growth. Group Patent team ensures and maximizes the protection of Jotun's intellectual properties and investments as well as contributing to Freedom to Operate for Jotun's business worldwide. As part of Group Patent, you will work with the newest technology within the industry in close contact with Jotun's R&D worldwide, legal, and external patent attorneys. You will be part of a dedicated and supportive team having a high activity level. We are in the process of further strengthening Group Patent and we are looking for two candidates. The positions are located at our new global headquarters in Sandefjord. For one of the positions, we are looking for a candidate with good knowledge of both chemistry and patenting. The other position will work closely with our partner in Kongsberg Discovery with the development of Hull Skater Solution to help us address the Clean Shipping Challenge. This candidate will spend some of the time at the Vessel robotics headquarter at Kongsberg Discovery in Horten.
Duties and responsibilities- Capture, evaluate and advise on appropriate IPR protection, in particular patenting.
- Draft and prosecute patent applications and oppositions in cooperation with external patent attorneys.
- Handle prosecution and contentious proceedings in cooperation with external patent attorneys.
- Competitor monitoring.
- Make Freedom to Operate Evaluations.
- Develop and support patent strategies for positioning and Freedom to Operate.
- Be an IP advisor for R&D and Business.
- Promote and increase IP awareness and competence across Jotun.
- Higher education in chemistry, ideally with knowledge of polymer, organic or material chemistry (Master or PhD level). (Position 1)
- Higher education within mechanical, electrical engineering, maritime technology, computer science, physics or other relevant fields (Master or PhD level). (Position 2)
- Experience from patent work, preferably as in-house patent council or qualified patent attorney. Candidates started with EQE-exams will also be considered
- Good oral and written English communication skills.
