Three years Postdoctoral Researcher in marine environmental, carbon and biodiversity modelling
About the position
As part of a new Horizon Europe project, we wish to recruit one three years Postdoctoral Researcher with an interest in Marine Protected Area network design in European seas.
The project takes a systematic approach to network design by using spatially comparable data on marine species, habitats, and ecosystems to optimise where most biodiversity occurs. In parallel, it will qualitatively map blue carbon attributes across habitats and environments to aid prioritisation of blue carbon and model climate velocity using ocean currents.
The position will form a core unit of the project under the supervision of one or more project leaders. It will be expected to be able to travel to other partners to aid collaboration and assist with technical reporting and related organisational and management tasks in the project.
The position has clear areas of responsibility:
- knowledge of carbon dynamics in marine ecosystems; understanding of the biogeography of the components of marine biodiversity, including species range maps, habitat maps (as on EMODnet Habitats portal); systematic conservation planning using for example, Zonation, software
The position is full time and located in Bodø.
Associated positions to the project with whom the candidate will collaborate closely, but are employed by other project partners (for which the applicant must apply directly) will focus on the following:
- Environmental data modelling, including ocean currents, climate change scenarios, climate velocity; skills in PCA and cluster analysis methods to classify ecosystems based on environmental variables
- Biodiversity informatics data standards and publication (into for example OBIS or GBIF), species distribution modelling, estimating species richness
Qualification requirements
