Aker Solutions' Global Product Management department in Norway is responsible for design and development of next-generation subsea control systems, electrical actuators, condition and performance monitoring and general electrification of subsea products. The department has the full design ownership of the subsea electronic product portfolio and is responsible for product development, prototyping, qualification, maintenance and product releases within the product portfolio.

The developments in the energy market are changing the requirements for subsea products , as only the smart products and efficient methods for development and industrialization will be sustainable in the face of strong competition. To meet the challenge, Aker Solutions is building a new technology center in Tranby, Norway to strengthen the product development organization and develop new business ideas, concepts and products. The department consists of three discipline units; Architecture & Test, Hardware Electronics/Mechanics, Product Software, that work closely together at the same location. We have a well-equipped lab with test equipment and tools for prototyping and testing, which enables early verification of concepts and technical solutions.

Responsibilities and Tasks
As a product architect you will be assigned to product development projects and take part in all project phases from design to support and maintenance. You will become a member of a highly qualified product architecture team that heads up the Subsea Controls Product Development in Aker Solutions. A product architect develops product concepts in collaboration with Product Managers, creates detailed requirement specifications and supervises the development teams (embedded electronics, embedded software, verification, qualification) during development. You will also be required to do support and training on the products to other parts of the organization including tendering, FEED, projects and Services.
Some of the key functionalities in our products are:
- Serial and analogue instrument interfaces
- Networking (Ethernet and IP)
- CANbus and Modbus protocols
- Process Control
- Performance and condition monitoring
- Equipment Management
Our development methodology is based on:
- Iterative development process with risk reduction as the primary driver
- Component-based architecture
- Model-driven and test-driven development
- Continuous integration and verification to ensure quality
Qualifications and Personal Qualities
- University degree, BSc or MSc
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, within process control systems or with development and/or testing of embedded systems (electronics or embedded software)
- Ability to handle complex specifications and develop consistent solutions
- Enthusiastic and creative
- Good communication and cultural skills with the ability to work in teams as well as independently
- Knowledge in the following areas are preferred:

Networking (Ethernet, VLAN, routing)

Communication protocols (TCP/IP, CANopen, Modbus)

Condition monitoring and management systems

UML modeling (e.g. Enterprise Architect)

Product testing (Qualification, Verification and Automated testing)
