Research in the Department is currently organized in research groups that integrate university and hospital research activities. Current research topics are within cancer, immunopathology, inflammation and neurodegenerative diseases. The research groups have extensive collaborations with national and international investigators and opportunities to perform translational research are excellent. The successful applicant is expected to strengthen the research activity in the Department.
We have one open PhD research fellow position within the field of bioinformatics or computational biology is available at Oslo University Hospital (OUS) ¿ Norwegian Radium Hospital. The candidate will work at the Department of Pathology at the Norwegian Radium Hospital. The appointment is a full-time position for three years, and is free of any teaching obligations.
Job descriptiion
The work tasks will be to design next generation predictive models for detecting functional gene regulation. The new computational method will eventually be applied on high-throughput sequencing data such as genome-wide sequencing data from cancer patients. The project involves both national and international research collaboration. Therefore, the student may spend time in the US with our international collaborator. The candidate will be co-supervised by Prof. Magnar Bjøra¿s from University of Oslo, Dr. Junbai Wang from OUS, and our international collaborator from the US. The scientific work by PhD candidate is expected leading to a PhD thesis at the University of Oslo.
Qualifications
We seek for a highly motivated person with good knowledge in molecular biology,
human genetics, data mining and computational programming. Ideally, the
candidate should hold a Master's degree in bioinformatics or computational
biology. However, MSc in physics, computer science or applied mathematics may
also be considered if the candidate can show his/her potential in learning
molecular biology and human genetics. Please attach a single PDF, which should contain an application letter

International applicants must document the skills by providing one of the following tests: TOEFL - Test of English as Foreign Language (minimum score 80), IELTS - International English Language Testing Service (minimum score 6.5), PET Academic - Person Test of English Academic (minimum score 62), and CAE - Certificate in Advanced English and CPE - Certificate of Proficiency in English from the University of Cambridge.
