Neurologist
Full-time, permanent position for a specialist in Neurology.
We are looking for a general neurologist, preferably with neurophysiology (EEG and EMG) experience but this is not a must. Doctors in their final year of specialization can also apply.
There is a possibility for sub-specialization within Neurology.
Work description
Our senior officers work both in the ward and in the outpatient clinic. In the ward they work together with a junior consultant. They supervise the junior-officers and take part in their education.
Normal working days are from 08.00 a.m. until 15.30 p.m. Senior consultants are on call every 6th day/weekend. We have always a junior consultant on call.
If our new colleague has experience with neurophysiology there will be the possibility for about 50 % work at the neurophysiology lab.
There are possibilities for doing research projects.

Qualifications
• The applicant must have Norwegian medical council authorization as a doctor along with recognized specialization in Neurology. Doctors in their final year of specialization who can finish their specialization in Norway can also apply.
• Applicant must have relevant hospital work experience.
• Applicant should also have high-level language proficiency (written & oral) in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, or willing to learn that.

Haugesund is a city in the region west of Norway. Haugesund is the regional center for 110.000 inhabitants. From Haugesund airport it takes 20 minutes to the city centre of Haugesund and to the Haugesund hospital.
Haugesund Hospital has a permanent Neurologist position available. Haugesund Hospital is a general hospital, located in the city of Haugesund. It is a part of the teaching facility network of Regional Health Authority of Western Norway.
The department of neurology in Haugesund is a part of the ’Medicine Clinic’, which also includes internal medicine (cardiology, endocrinology, infectious diseases, gastro-enterology, pulmonology, oncology, general internal medicine), habilitation and pediatry.
The department consists of:
• A ward with 15 beds, included our stroke-unit with 6 beds (about 1500 patients annually).
• An out-patient clinic (about 2400 consultations)
• The EEG laboratory. We have possibility for EP and EMG but we have no neurophysiologist at the moment. Our EEG are recorded in Haugesund and described by neurophysiologists in Stavanger.
We have close cooperation with our own group of physiotherapists and occupational and speech therapists.
At the moment we have 6 neurologists (senior consultants) and 8 trainees (junior consultants becoming neurologist). We have positions for 7 neurologists.
We have 2 Parkinson nurses, 2 MS nurses and 1 epilepsy nurse and 1 neuro-oncology nurse who are cooperating in our outpatient clinic. We have botox -, baclofen -, apomorfin and Duodopa treatment, and the follow-up of DBS patients in our outpatient clinic.
At the hospital we have an outstanding radiology department with MRI, CT, nuclear medicine included DaTscan. We have good co-operation with the other departments, both surgical and medicine.
We have no neurosurgeon in Haugesund but good co-operation with the neurosurgeons at the University Hospital in Bergen.
