About the position
NHH in Bergen, Norway, invites applications for a position as Associate Professor in Operations Research at the Department of Business and Management Science. The Department delivers teaching and supervision in NHH's programs at the bachelor, master and PhD levels, as well as executive programs.
The Department has high ambitions in terms of research and offers a stimulating work environment. The main activities are organized in six broad research areas: i) Incentives, Contracts and Firm Behavior, ii) Investments, Insurance and Household Finance, iii) Business Taxation, iv) Energy Markets, Resource Management and Sustainability v) Shipping, Logistics and Operations Management, and vi) Data Science and Analytics. The Department is multi-disciplinary and the research covers both empirical and theoretical inquiries.
The Department aims to strengthen its capacity in the research area Shipping, Logistics and Operations Management, and seeks ambitious candidates early in their careers who can document relevant research and teaching capabilities within operations research. Particular attention will be paid to candidates with supplementary competence in Data Science and Analytics.
Candidates should have a research interest in topics such as mathematical non-linear optimization and logistics. Candidates are expected to contribute to the success of NHH's Centre for Shipping and Logistics where there is a special interest in studying how modern information technologies - for example autonomy, Internet of Things, tracking, pricing, two-way communication, the sharing economy, and analytics - may change traditional logistics. With respect to teaching, the department aims to strengthen its capacity in business analytics courses such as Pricing Analytics, Simulation of Business Processes, Supply Chain Management, Decision Modelling in Business, Operations Management, and Algorithms and Computer Programming.
The candidate appointed to the position is expected to interact and cooperate on research with colleagues, attending faculty seminars, taking part in recruitment processes, and other activities that aim to strengthen the research and social environment at NHH and the department.
Applicants must have a PhD degree from a recognized business school or university, and must demonstrate high quality in both research and teaching. International experience and qualifications will be emphasized. Research quality will be evaluated based on publications in highly recognized international journals and research potential through a pipeline of working papers. Teaching quality and the ability to engage large classes will be assessed through documented evidence of previous teaching experience in a recognized academic program, interaction with students and student evaluations. In the event of equivalent qualifications, female applicants will be given preference.
NHH offers
The salary will be negotiable within the State Salary Scale for Associated Professors. NHH offers a favorable arrangement with membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, research funds for traveling and conference participation, and a bonus system for publication in top international journals. External research grants and teaching in executive programs may also offer opportunities for supplementing the base salary.
