About Cognite
Cognite is a Nordic software company supporting the full-scale digital transformation of heavy-asset industries around the world. With Cognite Data Fusion, we supply contextualized data to drive industrial applications that increase safety and efficiency and drive revenue.
Our team is both international and interdisciplinary, including more than 250 excellent software developers, data scientists, designers, 3D specialists, and industry professionals. Together, we have built an industrial software package that empowers industrial companies in Oil & Gas, Energy, Shipping, and Manufacturing to extract value from their wealth of existing data by transforming it into useful information.
Cognite Data Fusion (CDF) ingests, processes, and contextualizes huge amounts of industrial data to make it available for analysis, machine learning, and day-to-day decision-making. Forward-thinking companies like Aker BP and Statnett have deployed CDF to make use of their data strategically.
Headquartered in Oslo, Norway, Cognite is young, innovative, and growing fast! Now we're looking for ambitious data evangelists to help our customers around the globe to build innovative solutions on top of our platform.
About the team: Industry Solutions
Industry Solutions is our domain focused project organization at Cognite. We are a cross functional mix of Cogniters, consultants and interns that builds Minimal Viable Products to solve industrial problems at our customers and nurtures the solutions to production. We work with laser focus on the shortest path to sustainable value capture for our users. We support one another, ask good questions, and give each other constructive feedback. The set of problems we tackle are incredibly diverse and so we celebrate aptitude and eagerness to learn. Our goal is to leverage our diverse set of strengths and backgrounds to build innovative solutions and nurture a great culture.
About the role
As a part of the Industry Solutions team you will travel to our customers around Europe to help build industrial solutions on top of liberated data. Industrial problems are detailed and specific, so we work hand in hand with subject matter experts and end-users to design and build a solution with measurable usage. Modern design and development practices are an essential part of this and so Cognite takes an active role in the Digital Transformation at our customers. Expect to be exposed to and able to contribute to this transformation to develop as a digital professional.
Specifically, as an Industrial Data Developer you will provide analytics and development competency to our cross-functional customer teams, focusing on
- participating in intensive whiteboard sessions and workshops with process engineers and equipment experts to understand the problem and how it maps to the data
- wrangling connected industrial data (1000+ of sensors, billions of datapoints, work orders, log entries, ...) in CDF using our Python SDK and Apache Spark Data Source
- implementing and deploying real time calculations and models into our model hosting environment
- building engaging data products using Grafana or Power BI
- working together with solution architects to minimize technical debt and operationalize the solution
Teamwork is an important part of the role. You collaborate well, and bring out the best in your colleagues as they do in you. You are passionate about doing things well and take initiative and responsibility to ensure that the team reaches its goals. Being a good communicator with multiple parties is an important part of this. You pursue your personal development and share your knowledge with the team.
Engineering experience is a plus, but more importantly you are excited to learn about the physical industrial world from the real experts (our customers). To solve industrial problems we (1) understand the basics of how massive compressors, turbines, heat exchangers, generators, hydrocyclones and other industrial equipment work and (2) understand the production process and causes of instabilities and negative environmental effects. This requires a large amount of travel: you are able and willing to relocate/commute temporarily (3 months) to work on customer projects, and are excited by the prospect of getting to know a new city.
